Osimhen risks one-match ban ahead of World Cup playoff final against DR Congo
Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen faces the threat of a one-match suspension as the Super Eagles prepare for Sunday’s 2026 World Cup playoff final against DR Congo.
The striker received a yellow card during Thursday’s 4–1 semi-final victory over Gabon after removing his shirt while celebrating his extra-time goal — a moment of relief after missing a clear chance to seal the game in regulation time.
Osimhen eventually made amends by converting a pass from Benjamin Frederick, but the booking now puts him on the brink of suspension.
Another caution on Sunday would rule him out of the intercontinental playoff should Nigeria advance.
Meanwhile, vice-captain Wilfred Ndidi will miss the DR Congo clash entirely, having picked up a yellow card in the semi-final that triggered an automatic suspension.
