One-term tenure: Akeredolu’s wife backs Peter Obi, gives reason

Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, widow of the late Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, has declared her support for former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a post shared on her X (formerly Twitter) handle, Mrs Akeredolu praised Obi’s leadership style and backed his promise to serve only one term if elected president.
She described the former Anambra State governor as “principled and frugal,” likening his governance vision to that of Singapore’s transformational leader, Lee Kuan Yew.
“I stand with Peter Obi. One term is enough to lay the foundation for a new Nigeria,” she wrote.
Her endorsement has sparked debate on social media, with many Nigerians welcoming the idea of a focused one-term presidency. Others, however, have questioned the motive behind her endorsement.
Peter Obi is yet to formally declare his intention to contest in 2027, but growing public endorsements suggest rising momentum for his potential candidacy.
