Ondo Govt lauches Women’s fitness outreach

The Ondo State Government has launched the O’datiwa Women Fitness and Health Awareness Outreach in Akure, a joint initiative by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and the Ministry of Youths and Sports.

Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Seun Osamaye,said the programme is designed to empower women with knowledge on healthy living and nutrition. She announced that the outreach will now hold every last Friday of the month to encourage regular exercise.

A Nurse and Hospital Management Board member, Mrs. Arinola Adamolekun, urged women to prioritize balanced diets, organic foods, hydration, sleep, and stress management, while avoiding processed foods and excess sugar. She also recommended forming community support groups to sustain healthy habits.

The event featured an energetic aerobics session led by certified instructors Coach Abimbola Oladimeji, Coach Ejibunnu Temitope Carolina, and Coach Okedola, with exercises suitable for women of all ages. Dr. Osamaye emphasized that the outreach is part of the state’s effort to reduce untimely deaths among women who often put family needs first.

Participants praised the government for bringing health services closer to them. A mother of three, Mrs. Funmilayo Ọjọ said, “For the first time, the government is bringing health to our doorstep. We feel seen and valued.”

Other attendees included Dr. Mrs. Ajibefun, Mrs. Ajaka, Dr. Mrs. Jumoke Aborode, Amira Alhaja Rafat Omikunle (FOMWAN President), Alhaja Momoh, and key officials from the state ministries.

The maiden O’datiwa outreach promises a healthier and more empowered female population in Ondo State, inspiring women to take charge of their wellness.
