Oluwo under fire over strong allegations against Ooni
Traditional rulers from Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State, under the aegis of Origbo Meje Obas, have issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, to either prove or withdraw allegations he made against the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the Salu of Edun Abon, Oba Kehinde Adesoji, accused the Oluwo of defaming the Ooni by claiming that the monarch conspired with his former wife to poison him.
The Origbo Meje Obas described the allegations as criminal and warned that legal action would follow if they are not substantiated.
The monarchs also recalled past incidents involving Oba Akanbi, including his suspension from the State Council of Obas in 2019 after he attacked the Agbowu of Ogbaagba during a dispute, an incident that left the Agbowu hospitalised.
Adesoji said, “There is no gainsaying the supremacy of the throne of the Ooni of Ife as the head of all Obas in Yorubaland. He who alleges must prove.”
The group demanded that Oba Akanbi write to the Inspector-General of Police or take the Ooni to court within the 21-day period or face legal action from the Origbo Meje Obas.
