Olubadan: Tinubu, dignataries attend Ladoja coronation
President Bola Tinubu has arrived at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan, Oyo State, for the coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The President’s arrival drew a massive crowd of cheering citizens and dignitaries, marking the climax of a week-long series of events celebrating the ascension of the new monarch.
Oba Ladoja, 81, a former governor of Oyo State and senator, was selected as Olubadan following the passing of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin on July 7, 2025. His coronation is historic, as he is the first former governor of the state to ascend the revered throne, combining political experience with traditional leadership.
Governor Seyi Makinde, who cut short his annual leave to present the staff of office, is among the top dignitaries in attendance, alongside several traditional rulers, political leaders, and business moguls from across Nigeria.
Security has been tightened across the city, with major roads closed and personnel from the police, DSS, and other agencies deployed to ensure a peaceful and orderly ceremony. Mapo Hall has been beautifully decorated for the occasion, while Ibadan streets are adorned with billboards and banners celebrating the new Olubadan.
The event is a showcase of Yoruba cultural pride, featuring traditional drummers, dancers, and royal rites. For Ibadanland, Ladoja’s coronation marks the beginning of a new era, reaffirming the continuity of one of the most respected traditional institutions in West Africa.
