Olakulehin Royal Family to launch tribute book in honour of late Olubadan

The Olakulehin Royal Family has announced the public presentation of a commemorative book titled “How Not to Be a King” in honour of the late 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.

Initially planned to mark the monarch’s 90th birthday and the first anniversary of his coronation, the book launch will now take place as part of the post-funeral reception and final rites following the revered king’s passing on July 7, 2025 — just two days after his birthday and five days before his coronation anniversary.

According to an official invitation signed by Chief Solomon Ayoade, Chief Press Secretary to the late Olubadan, the event is scheduled for Friday, July 8, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

The book offers a detailed account of Oba Olakulehin’s life and reign, including personal reflections and tributes from family members, friends, associates, and members of the Olubadan-in-Council.

“The family has resolved to proceed with the public presentation of ‘How Not to Be a King’ as a means of celebrating and preserving the values and leadership legacy of the late Oba Olakulehin,” the statement read.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is expected to headline the event, alongside other dignitaries, traditional rulers, and public officials.

Described as a monarch of wisdom, humility, and vision, Oba Olakulehin was widely respected for his progressive views on tradition, dedication to unity in Ibadanland, and unwavering commitment to education and cultural preservation.

The royal family expressed hope that the public would join them in celebrating the enduring legacy of a king who left a lasting mark on the city’s traditional history.
