Okpebholo speaks on alleged rift with deputy

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has dismissed speculation of a rift between him and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, stating that all gubernatorial decisions are taken in consultation with his deputy.

He made the remarks during a church thanksgiving service in Benin City celebrating Idahosa’s 45th birthday.

Recalling their first meeting at the Transcorps Hilton in Abuja, Okpebholo said he immediately saw Idahosa as his future deputy. “The word of the prophet has come to pass today. I have absolute confidence in him. We take decisions together, and before executing anything, we discuss and agree,” he said, praising Idahosa as a partner in governance.

Idahosa shared his early struggles following his father’s death when he was six, attributing his political success to divine grace, which saw him appointed Commissioner at age 34. He highlighted that these challenges inspired his commitment to empowering women and youth.

Former Edo State Secretary, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, described Idahosa as a humble and strong-willed politician, recalling how he resigned his government post to support former President Goodluck Jonathan. Former Governor Adams Oshiomhole also praised Idahosa, noting that he was recommended as an asset to the administration.

On the upcoming Ovia Federal Constituency by-election, Oshiomhole emphasized the importance of a win to reaffirm public confidence in Governor Okpebholo and noted the candidacy of Omosede Igbinedion as a challenge to women to support another woman.

The thanksgiving service, held at the Living Faith Church in Adesuwa, drew several top political figures from Edo State.
