Ogungbenro returns as Oyo PDP chairman

Dayo Ogungbenro has been re-elected as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State following the party’s congress held today at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.

Announcing the results, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Senator Austin Akobundu, confirmed Ogungbenro’s return alongside other newly elected executive members. They include Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke (Deputy Chairman), Joel Oyelami (State Secretary), Toyin Olawumi (Women Leader) and Kazeem Bello (Youth Leader).

In his acceptance speech, Ogungbenro urged party members to remain focused and pledged that his team would consolidate the achievements of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.

Governor Makinde, who attended the congress with his cabinet, tasked the new executives with ensuring PDP secures victory in all political positions during the 2027 general elections.

Former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, attended as a special observer and encouraged the new leadership to work for the growth and development of the party.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, a total of 4,050 delegates from across Oyo State participated in the congress.
