Ogun Govt speaks on ‘sealing Gbenga Daniel’s properties’

The Ogun State Government has denied any knowledge of sealing properties belonging to former governor and current Ogun East Senator, Gbenga Daniel.

Mr. Tunji Odunlami, Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning, made the statement during a press briefing held at the Governor’s Office in Abeokuta on Monday.

He advised Senator Daniel to send a representative to the relevant government office to present the necessary documents for verification and to obtain the required clearance.

Odunlami clarified that the government follows a strict procedure before sealing any property. This includes physically marking the property and placing a sticker or cross-sign as a warning. According to him, the notice displayed on the senator’s property was not a sealing order but a stop-and-quit notice, asking property representatives to visit the office for further clarification.

“This exercise started in Abeokuta and has now been extended to Shagamu, Ijebu-Ode, Ota, and Ilaro, where Government Reserved Areas (GRAs) are located,” Odunlami explained.

He added that all building owners served with such notices are expected to bring their permits and relevant documents for verification. “So far, Senator Gbenga Daniel has not responded or sent anyone on his behalf,” the commissioner stated.

Odunlami emphasized that the state enforces physical planning laws impartially, regardless of the developer’s identity. The enforcement notices are part of ongoing efforts to regulate land use and support urban development in the public interest.

“The law applies to all developments, including those that existed before the law was enacted. Section 73 allows enforcement regardless of when unauthorized construction took place,” he said.

The commissioner urged Senator Daniel and others served with enforcement notices to promptly visit the appropriate offices to resolve any outstanding issues.
