Obajio: Ooni announces new Ife chief

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has approved the appointment of Prince Olagoke Owoyomi as the new Obajio of Ife.

This was made known in a statement released on Wednesday by Otunba Moses Olafare, Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife.

According to the statement, the appointment follows a thorough selection process involving three eligible princes from the Alayo and Bamidein ruling houses. Prince Owoyomi, a respected farmer and businessman from the Alayo ruling house in Moore, Ile-Ife, emerged as the successful candidate after a meticulous screening conducted by a five-member committee constituted by the Ooni-in-Council.

The other contenders were Prince Olagbenga Owoyomi and Prince Kola Ogunrinola from the Bamidein ruling house.

In the letter of appointment personally signed by the Ooni, the monarch praised Prince Owoyomi’s character and commitment to the Ife kingdom.

“This appointment reflects your integrity, dedication to cultural values, and your demonstrated commitment to the service of our land,” the Ooni said. “As the new Ejio of Ife, you are to uphold the dignity of the title and serve with wisdom, humility, and loyalty, while promoting unity and progress within Ile-Ife.”

Details regarding the installation ceremony and official presentation will be announced in accordance with palace tradition and protocols.
