The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has strongly condemned the assault on one of its members, Edema Elohor Jennifer, in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

A viral video that surfaced on Monday showed armed operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group invading a corps members’ lodge, accusing them of involvement in internet fraud. Despite presenting their NYSC identity cards and uniforms, the operatives subjected the corps members to harassment, with Elohor beaten and stripped in the process.

In a statement signed by the Director of Press, Caroline Embu, NYSC described the attack as “outrageous” and confirmed that the matter had already been reported to the police for investigation.

“Our findings revealed that operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group forcefully entered a corps lodge in Oba, alleging it was being used for illegal activities — a claim that has not been substantiated. During the raid, Corps Member Edema Elohor Jennifer (AN/24C/0626), who was visiting the lodge, was assaulted,” the statement read.

NYSC called on host communities to ensure the safety of corps members serving in their areas, stressing that it would not tolerate any action that endangers their welfare.

“Management wishes to restate its strong commitment to the welfare and security of corps members nationwide and will not condone any individual or group undermining their safety for whatsoever reason,” the agency added.
