NNPP expels Abdulmumin Jibrin

The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

The state chairman of the party, Hashim Dungurawa, announced the decision on Saturday while addressing journalists in Kano.

According to Dungurawa, Jibrin’s expulsion followed what he described as repeated public outbursts against the NNPP and its leadership.

He dismissed Kofa as a “weak politician” whose electoral success was only possible through the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP platform.

“If he were truly strong politically, he would have won his election under the APC, but he failed. It was when he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a House of Reps member. Now he is deceiving himself, thinking he is strong,” Dungurawa stated.

He revealed that a reconciliation committee had earlier engaged Jibrin after his interview with Channels Television, but said the lawmaker’s subsequent remarks went beyond tolerance.

“Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our interest, openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” the NNPP chairman added.

Dungurawa downplayed speculations that Jibrin might return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting such a move would not weaken the NNPP. He stressed that the party’s strength lies in collective structures, particularly the Kwankwasiyya movement under the leadership of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

It would be recalled that the NNPP had earlier suspended four lawmakers—Senator Kawu Sumaila (Kano South), Kabiru Alhassan Rurum (Rano/Kibiya), Ali Madakin Gini (Dala), and Sani Abdullahi Rogo (Rogo/Karaye)—over alleged anti-party activities.
