Nnamdi Kanu petitions NBA, seeks sanctions against 3 judges

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has petitioned the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), calling for disciplinary action against Justices Binta Nyako, Haruna Tsammani, and Garba Lawal over alleged gross judicial misconduct in his trial.

In a petition he personally signed and released through one of his lawyers, Umesi, Kanu accused the judges of miscarriage of justice and outlined what he described as infractions committed during proceedings against him.

The IPOB leader, who has been in DSS custody since his extraordinary rendition from Kenya in June 2021, urged the NBA currently holding its annual meeting in Enugu to investigate the matter, publish a report condemning the misuse of civil procedures in criminal trials, and ensure errant judges are held accountable.

Kanu argued that the alleged conduct of the judges “now stands as an un-erasable blot on Nigeria’s legal conscience,” stressing that no Nigerian should ever again be “detained by abduction or tried under a repealed law.”
