Nigeria’s Flamingos cruise into round round of 16 after win over Samoa
Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, sealed their place in the Round of 16 at the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with a commanding 4–0 victory over Samoa in their final group match.
Coach Bankole Olowookere’s girls dominated from start to finish, scoring three goals in the first half to put the game beyond reach.
Queen Joseph bagged a brace, while team captain Shakirat Moshood converted a penalty to make it 3–0 before halftime. Moshood, however, missed a second spot kick early in the second half.
Azeezat Oduntan added a fourth goal 12 minutes from time to round off an emphatic win for the Nigerians.
With the result, the Flamingos advanced to the knockout stage as one of the best third-placed teams and will next face Italy in the Round of 16.
