Nigerian singer 9ice opens up on near-death experience from spiritual attack

Nigerian music star Alexander Adegbola Akande, popularly known as 9ice, has revealed that he battled a life-threatening spiritual attack in 2010 that left him vomiting blood for six months.
The ‘Gongo Aso’ crooner made the disclosure during a recent appearance on The Nancy Isime Show.
According to 9ice, the mysterious illness had no medical explanation and forced him to vacate his home.
“When I was vomiting blood for about six months in my own house, I had to leave,” he said. “It happened in 2009/2010. It wasn’t a medical condition.”
9ice explained that he found healing after being introduced to a traditional Ifa priest, marking the beginning of his journey into African traditional religion. He revealed that he is neither a Christian nor a Muslim, describing himself instead as a traditionalist and a “Babalawo.”
“I’m not a Christian or a Muslim. I’m a Babalawo. I’m an African. I’m a traditionalist. The first time I experienced Ifa was when I was vomiting blood,” he said, expressing regret for not embracing Ifa earlier in his life.
Reflecting on the experience, 9ice cited Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, who was known for his devotion to traditional deities like Ogun. “Fela used to go to Ogun and people were mocking him, but now, I understand,” he added.
The singer also encouraged Africans to reconnect with their roots by embracing indigenous spiritual practices.
