Nigeria to provide world’s largest workforce by 2050 – Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has projected that Nigeria will become the country with the world’s largest workforce by 2050, stressing that his administration is investing in education, infrastructure, and digital skills to harness the potential of its young population.
Speaking through the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, at the 18th Annual Banking and Finance Conference of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) in Abuja, Tinubu said recent reforms, including fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification, are designed to stabilise the economy, attract investors, and create sustainable jobs.
Central Bank Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, added that the apex bank aims to attract $1 billion in diaspora remittances monthly by 2026, describing such inflows as a reliable source of foreign exchange.
CIBN President, Prof. Pius Deji Olanrewaju, noted that Nigerian banks have raised over N2.5 trillion in fresh capital since 2024, non-oil exports have grown by 19.6 per cent in the first half of 2025, and fintech continues to position the country as Africa’s digital finance leader.
He, however, cautioned that inflation at 21.88 per cent remains a major challenge despite steady GDP growth.
