Nigeria is bleeding, declare state of emergency now – Peter Obi tells FG

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called for urgent government action to tackle the worsening security situation in Nigeria.

In a post on his official X handle on Sunday, Obi described the country as “bleeding,” urging the declaration of a state of emergency on insecurity.

His comments come after a deadly weekend that saw eight personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) killed in Edo State, alongside reports of five soldiers and 58 civilians feared dead in Borno State.

Obi described the killings as stark evidence that Nigeria is in the grip of a “full-blown security emergency” and urged authorities to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

“When over 100 Nigerians are killed in a single weekend, our casualty figures rival those of countries officially at war. This is no longer business as usual,” Obi wrote. “It is time to declare a national war on insecurity — to mobilise every resource, every agency, every state, and to suspend all distractions while we begin the process of reclaiming our nation from lawlessness.”
