My path to the throne Divine – Olubadan-designate Ladoja

The Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has described his journey to the throne of Ibadan as one shaped by patience, perseverance, and divine favour.

Speaking for the first time since his nomination, the former Oyo State governor reflected on the weight of his ascension, noting that it came in the wake of the passing of his predecessor, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.

“When I heard about the transition of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, it hit me with a rude shock. I never imagined that destiny would call me at this moment,” he said while addressing supporters at his Bodija residence in Ibadan.

He paid glowing tributes to the late Olubadan, describing him as a monarch who upheld Ibadan’s traditions with honour and dignity, while extending condolences to his family, the Olubadan-in-Council, and the entire people of Ibadanland.

Recounting his path to the throne, Oba Ladoja noted that his journey began on October 1, 1993, when he was installed as Jagun Balogun of Ibadanland, from where he steadily climbed the 36 hierarchical steps of the Ibadan traditional system. “It has been a journey of patience, perseverance, and divine favour. Many who started this journey with me are no longer alive,” he remarked.

The Olubadan-designate also pointed to what he described as a divine sign of destiny. “I was born in 1944, and I am now the 44th Olubadan. I believe it is more than coincidence—it is destiny,” he declared.

He further expressed gratitude to the Olubadan-in-Council for their unanimous support. “If they hadn’t approved me, what could I have done? All 10 council members gave their backing, and I’m thankful,” he said.

Looking ahead, Oba Ladoja disclosed plans to consult widely with stakeholders including the Oyo State Governor, the Oluwo, and other traditional leaders. He urged for prayers, saying: “This is a sacred responsibility, and I trust God to guide me in leading Ibadanland with fairness, peace, and progress.”
