Miyetti Allah seeks dialogue with Oyo Govt over alleged arbitrary arrests

The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani Socio-Cultural Association has called on the Oyo State Government to initiate dialogue concerning the alleged arbitrary arrests of its members and the confiscation of their cattle in several areas across the state.
Speaking at a press briefing in Akinyele, the association’s leader, Alhaji Sanni Muhammed, appealed directly to Governor Seyi Makinde to intervene, expressing deep concerns that ongoing enforcement actions threaten the livelihoods of their communities.
“We have made repeated efforts to engage with the state’s Rule of Law leadership, but these have not yielded results,” Muhammed said. “We therefore earnestly seek the prompt attention of Governor Makinde.”
The group underscored its commitment to peace, emphasizing that its members are law-abiding citizens who contribute significantly to Oyo State’s economy and food supply. They lamented frequent early-morning raids on their cattle ranches and reported cases of extortion by individuals allegedly acting under state authority.
“The enforcement of new cattle laws appears to be accompanied by discriminatory practices that foster fear and tension,” the association stated. “No citizen should be subjected to injustice or unlawful treatment.”
While recognizing the government’s authority to enact laws, the group urged for fair and humane application that safeguards the welfare of entire communities. They called on Governor Makinde to direct relevant agencies to investigate the alleged illegal cash demands and harassment faced by their members.
The association also requested a review of the enforcement methods related to the anti-cattle rearing legislation, stressing the importance of dialogue to achieve peaceful and sustainable solutions that respect both public interest and community livelihoods.
“We pledge our continued cooperation and loyalty to the government and laws of Oyo State,” Muhammed affirmed, “and trust that the governor’s wisdom will bring swift resolution before tensions escalate.”
Additional voices from the association, including Hajia Aminat Idris, Southwest Women Leader, and Alhaji Dauda Adebayo, Chairman of the National Association of Cattle Dealers, Processors, and Marketers of Nigeria, reiterated their dedication to lawful conduct and contribution to the state’s socio-economic development.
