Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to consider hosting the Super Eagles’ international fixtures in Ibadan, saying the move would boost his administration’s efforts to grow the state’s sports economy.

Makinde made the appeal at the weekend while declaring open the 2025 Annual General Assembly of the NFF, held in Ibadan.

The governor described football as a powerful unifying force in Nigeria and expressed confidence that Oyo State is well-prepared to host major sporting events. He stressed that the sporting facilities in Ibadan meet the standards required for international matches.

“Oyo State, particularly Ibadan, is ready to host top-tier events, including Super Eagles matches. We have the facilities, and I pledge full government support to ensure their success,” Makinde said.

He also commended the leadership of the NFF and the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for reforms aimed at improving officiating standards and strengthening the domestic league’s organisation.
