Makinde subtly knocks Wike, says he won’t ‘go low’ with anyone

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Thursday said he would not engage in personal attacks or political squabbles, in what appeared to be a subtle jab at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Speaking to journalists after the South-West Zoning Consultative Summit of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, Makinde said his focus remained on unity and engagement within the party.

“Personally, when people go low or go into the gutters, I don’t go with them. Some people are not going into the gutters. We will reach out to them. That is democracy,” he said.

The summit, which brought together PDP leaders including BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri, Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke, former governors Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Emmanuel Udom, as well as several lawmakers, focused on strengthening the party ahead of the national congress.

Makinde said the PDP remained strong, pointing to its second-place finishes in many states during recent elections as evidence of resilience.

He added that discussions on zoning of the presidential ticket were premature, stressing that unity and party structure must come first.
