Makinde releases ₦45m for HIV/AIDS campaign, swears in OYSACA ambassadors

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved ₦45 million for the Oyo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OYSACA) to boost the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS in the state.

The governor, represented by his deputy, Barr. Bayo Lawal, made this known during the inauguration of OYSACA ambassadors on Thursday at the agency’s conference room in Agodi, Ibadan. He said the funds, alongside recently approved HIV test kits, would strengthen the agency’s capacity to tackle the epidemic.

Six ambassadors were inaugurated, including Chief (Dr) Saka Balogun, Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu, Chief (Mrs) Mutiat Ladoja, Alhaji Rasaq Adeleke, Hon. Wale Saminu, and Hon. Shina Peller. Makinde described them as credible and influential figures chosen to champion public enlightenment campaigns on HIV/AIDS.

“Inaugurating these ambassadors is a milestone in our journey towards a future where HIV/AIDS is no longer a public health threat,” Makinde said, urging them to inspire awareness, promote education, and help save lives.

Chairman of OYSACA, Dr. Gbola Adetunji, commended the governor for his support, saying the funds would enable the agency to reach more high-risk groups and strengthen collaboration with partners such as the Global Fund, APIN, and Society for Family Health.
