Lagos State University (LASU) has emerged as the most sought-after university in Nigeria, according to newly released data by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The statistics were unveiled on Tuesday during the ongoing 2024 JAMB Policy Meeting held in Abuja. The report showed that LASU has displaced the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), which had held the top spot for several years.

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) ranked as the second most preferred institution, attracting 58,645 applicants, while UNILORIN dropped to third position with 56,758 applicants.

UNILORIN’s popularity over the years had been largely driven by its uninterrupted academic calendar and relatively stable academic environment, factors that continue to appeal to candidates seeking consistency in their higher education journey.

The latest rankings reflect shifting preferences among candidates sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and offer insight into evolving perceptions of institutional reliability and academic excellence in Nigeria.
