Lagos Govt halts construction in Magodo
The Lagos State Government has ordered an immediate halt to construction activities at a site located at 18 Kunle Ogedengbe Crescent, Magodo, citing the absence of approved engineering designs for drainage and embankment works.
This directive was issued by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, during an inspection visit to the site on Wednesday.
The development was confirmed in a statement from the Ministry, signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Mukaila Sanusi.
According to Dr. Olumide, the site borders the Adetoro-Adelaja Road embankment, a critical area for flood control and stormwater drainage.
He warned that the ongoing construction, in its current state, posed potential risks to surrounding infrastructure and nearby properties.
“The stop-work order is necessary to prevent infrastructural failure and protect surrounding developments. No further work will be permitted until an engineering design with comprehensive drainage and embankment details is submitted and approved,” the statement read.
The Commissioner emphasized the importance of proper planning, noting that developments near sensitive infrastructure must strictly adhere to safety and regulatory standards.
“For work to resume at the site, the developers must provide the required documentation and demonstrate full compliance with planning standards. The government will not tolerate practices that endanger lives or compromise neighbourhood safety,” Olumide added.
The government’s action underscores its commitment to ensuring public safety and orderly urban development across the state.
