JUST IN: Super Eagles resume training as allowances dispute resolved

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have resumed training following a brief boycott over unpaid allowances.

On Tuesday, players and officials skipped their scheduled evening training session, citing outstanding payments from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The payments reportedly relate to the team’s qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2026 World Cup playoffs.

Details of the negotiations between the players and football administrators were not disclosed. However, Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong confirmed on X that the issue had been resolved, assuring fans that the team remains focused on upcoming matches.

“Issue RESOLVED. We are together and as before focused on the games ahead!” Troost-Ekong wrote.

The Super Eagles are set to face Gabon on Thursday in the semi-finals of the 2026 African World Cup playoffs. The winner will face either Congo DR or Cameroon in the final for the continent’s sole intercontinental playoff spot.
