Renowned Nigerian musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, has formally apologized for the recent incident that took place at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

In a statement signed by the music legend, Kwam 1 expressed regret over the event but denied allegations that he was carrying alcohol in his flask, insisting it contained only water.

“The incident that occurred at the local wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport involving my humble self and ValueJet Airline was, to say the least, unfortunate,” he said.

Kwam 1 explained that he suffers from chronic dehydration, and on medical advice, always carries water to stay hydrated. He clarified that the flask was empty during two security screenings and was only filled with water at the airport lounge, just before proceeding to the tarmac — a fact he said can be confirmed by CCTV footage.

“I hadn’t even boarded the plane, let alone been deboarded,” he emphasized.

Acknowledging the concerns raised, the veteran artist expressed deep regret and assured that it was never his intention to cause disruption or breach aviation regulations.

“My unwavering patriotism and loyalty to the Federal Republic of Nigeria have never been in doubt. Kwam 1 concluded by tendering his sincere apology to the Presidency, Ministry of Aviation, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), ValueJet, fellow Nigerians, and his numerous fans worldwide who expressed concern following the incident.
