JUST IN: Government increases corps members’ allowance

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has once again increased the monthly stipend for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state—this time from ₦20,000 to ₦30,000.

Fintiri made the announcement on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2025 Batch B Stream I corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Damare, Girei Local Government Area.

Dressed in full NYSC uniform, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to youth development and the welfare of corps members.

He emphasized that the increment is part of broader efforts to ensure a more conducive and supportive environment for national service, including regular provisions of food and welfare items.

“We remain committed to enhancing the welfare of corps members. This new allowance reflects our desire to make Adamawa a friendly and supportive place for national service,” Fintiri said.

He also disclosed that the state government is in the advanced stages of planning for the construction of a new NYSC camp. The Governor instructed the NYSC State Coordinator to involve corps members with professional backgrounds in architecture, civil engineering, and quantity surveying in the supervision of the project.

Congratulating the new corps members on completing their academic programs, Fintiri welcomed them to the state and assured them of government support and hospitality. He described them as key stakeholders in the implementation of government policies, particularly in the education sector.

“During your service year, you are to act as responsible citizens of Adamawa State—display discipline, support your host communities, and build meaningful relationships,” the governor urged.

Also speaking at the event, Barr. Wali Yakubu, the Commissioner for Youths and Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board in the state, advised corps members to take the orientation program seriously, obey camp regulations, and take full advantage of skill acquisition opportunities for future self-reliance.

State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Osoro Caroline, commended the new corps members for their discipline and enthusiasm. She said the orientation is aimed at preparing them physically, mentally, and emotionally for their national assignment.

Mrs. Osoro lauded the governor for the allowance increment, the plans for a modern camp, and consistent welfare support, describing him as a “visionary leader and strong advocate of youth empowerment.”

The event featured the administration of the oath of allegiance by the Chief Judge of Adamawa State, Justice Hapsat Abdurrahman, and a symbolic presentation of the NYSC journal to Governor Fintiri.
