JUST IN: Fire guts Rivers state government secretariat
A section of the Rivers State Government Secretariat in Port Harcourt has been gutted by fire.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Honour Sirawoo, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Monday.
Sirawoo said firefighters from both the Rivers State Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service (FFS) were on the ground battling to extinguish the flames.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined as of the time of filing this report.
Eyewitnesses said the affected section of the complex houses the Rivers State Pension Board.
The incident comes a few weeks after President Bola Tinubu reinstated the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, along with members of the State House of Assembly.
It will be recalled that President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the oil-rich Niger Delta state on March 18, 2025.
