JUST IN: Abuja-Kaduna train services suspended after derailment
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has suspended train operations on the Abuja-Kaduna route following Sunday’s derailment.
NRC Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, said services will remain halted until investigations are concluded and safety is guaranteed.
He confirmed that six passengers sustained minor injuries, adding that refunds have been issued to all affected travelers.
According to him, technical teams from the NRC, the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and other agencies are examining the site to determine the cause and prevent a recurrence.
Opeifa dismissed speculations of poor maintenance, insisting the corporation adheres to safety standards.
Meanwhile, the NSIB has opened a formal probe as efforts continue to restore services on the corridor.
