JUST IN: 5 feared killed as suspected bandits attack NPS office in Oyo
Suspected bandits on Tuesday night attacked the National Park Service (NPS) office in Oloka, Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, leaving at least five personnel feared dead.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on January 6, 2026.
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told 32FM that five NPS officers were targeted during the assault. The source said four officers were confirmed dead, while one sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment.
Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the attack was carried out by unidentified armed men.
He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, alongside other security chiefs, was on his way to the scene to assess the situation.
DSP Olayinka added that the Commissioner had ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams, officers of the Mobile Police Force (MPF), and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to the area.
According to him, the deployment is aimed at preventing further breakdown of law and order, restoring calm, and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
The police spokesperson assured residents that security agencies are fully on top of the situation and urged the public to remain calm as investigations and security operations continue.
