JAMB sets 2024/2025 admission cut-off marks: 150 for Universities, 100 for others

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), in collaboration with heads of tertiary institutions and other key stakeholders, has announced the official cut-off marks for admissions into Nigerian higher institutions for the 2024/2025 academic session.

At the 2025 JAMB Policy Meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja, stakeholders agreed on a minimum score of 150 for universities, 140 for colleges of nursing sciences, and 100 for both polytechnics and colleges of education.

The meeting, chaired by the Minister of Education, Prof. Maruf Alausa, had in attendance Vice Chancellors, Rectors, Provosts, and heads of regulatory bodies across the tertiary education sector.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, stressed that these cut-off marks are minimum thresholds, warning that no institution is permitted to admit candidates who score below them. However, institutions retain the autonomy to set higher benchmarks depending on the competitiveness of their programmes.

“This policy reflects the realities of our education system and the need to align admission processes with merit, equity, and institutional capacity,” Prof. Oloyede said.

While reaffirming institutional independence in admission processes, the policy meeting emphasized that all institutions must adhere to national standards and timelines, and report their admission outcomes to JAMB for central processing.

JAMB reiterated that the policy aims to ensure fairness, accessibility, and quality in the nation’s admission system.
