I’ve quit politics – Olubadan, Oba Ladoja

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, has declared that he has formally quit politics, saying he is “no more a politician” following his ascension to the throne.

The former governor of Oyo State made the statement on Tuesday during a courtesy visit from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Senate President Iyorcha Ayu, and other notable personalities at his palace in Ibadan.

Reflecting on his political career, Oba Ladoja recalled his shared experiences with Atiku and other politicians, emphasizing that his new status as Olubadan marks the end of his political ambitions.

He assured his guests that his focus would now be on promoting justice and fairness throughout his reign. “I am no more one of you. I am not a politician anymore. Welcome to my house,” he said.

Oba Ladoja further reflected on his political journey, saying: “Now that I am the Olubadan, I am no more interested in any other things than the Olubadan. We started from SDP, we were in exile together, we were in PDP together. When I wanted to create an identity, I went to Accord Party which became a household name here. I know you politicians have a way of coming back.”

He added that religious leaders had advised that the primary role of leaders is to promote justice and fairness. “I will serve my people—Ibadan, Oyo State, Africa, and the world at large. I will depend on your support and advice,” he concluded.
