Invitation: Drama as Sowore storms Police headquarters with traveling bag

Human rights activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore, on Wednesday, reported to the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja, visibly carrying a travel bag, after being summoned by the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit.

The invitation, dated August 5, stems from a petition alleging forgery and criminal defamation.

Sowore had earlier pledged to honour the summons and called on his supporters to accompany him, urging “citizens of conscience” and “voices of resistance” to stand in solidarity.

Arriving at about 12:16 p.m., Sowore was joined by his lawyers, A.K. Musa and Marshal Abubakar, along with a crowd of supporters who chanted anti-government slogans and songs directed at IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

His travel bag, packed with essentials such as soap, toothpaste, clothes, and books, symbolised his readiness for possible detention.

As of the time of reporting, the outcome of the police interrogation remains unknown.
