INEC releases timeline for Osun 2026 Governorship Election primaries

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set November 24 to December 15, 2025, for political parties in Osun State to conduct governorship primaries and resolve related disputes ahead of the August 8, 2026 election.
Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, announced the schedule at a stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo, stating it complies with Section 84 of the Electoral Act 2022, which mandates democratic nomination of candidates.
Submission of nomination forms — EC9 (personal particulars) and EC9B (list of candidates) — will run from January 15 to February 9, 2026, through INEC’s online portal. Access codes for submission will be issued on December 15, 2025, at INEC headquarters.
Agboke revealed Osun currently has 1,954,800 registered voters, 1,594,006 PVCs collected, and 360,794 uncollected. The state has 332 electoral wards and 3,763 polling units.
Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) begins nationwide on August 18, 2025, starting with online pre-registration, followed by biometric capture from August 25 at local INEC offices. Physical registration without online pre-fill will also be available at no cost.
Eligible registrants include fresh voters (18+), those replacing lost or damaged PVCs, and voters transferring to new locations. Agboke warned against underage or foreign registration, stressing “No PVC, No Voting.”
He assured provisions for persons with disabilities, including braille guides, magnifiers, assistive listening devices, and priority voting. INEC has engaged in state-wide voter sensitisation through media, religious institutions, markets, traditional rulers, and civil society.
Copies of the election timetable have been distributed to parties for compliance.
