I see Tinubu seeking to be Nigeria's life president

As the 2025 Christmas season approaches, the Acting Nuncio of the World Bishops Council (WBC) in Africa, Bishop Seun Adeoye, has called on Nigerian Christians to mark this year’s Yuletide with sobriety and deep reflection.

Bishop Adeoye said Christmas celebrations should be subdued in honour of the thousands of Nigerians killed by bandits and terrorists, and in solidarity with those still held in captivity across the country.

The cleric, who is the founder of Sufficient Grace and Truth International Ministries and the International Communications Director of the Worldwide Anglican Church, made the call in a statement issued in Osogbo on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

According to him, Christians should use the season to pray fervently, including prayers for perpetrators of violence to experience a change of heart.

“If Christ were physically present today, would He ask for the heads of His enemies? No. He would pray for them and urge them to repent from their devilish atrocities,” Adeoye stated.

Speaking on Nigeria’s political situation, the bishop warned of what he described as covert moves by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to position himself as Nigeria’s first life president.

“I strongly perceive that changes are being planned in the nation’s political landscape, with the President eyeing a life presidency. These clandestine moves go far beyond preparations for 2027; they are attempts to alter the rules entirely,” he said.

Adeoye alleged that opposition parties have been weakened, while critical institutions such as the judiciary, legislature, security agencies, and the electoral body are under firm control, creating an enabling environment for such an agenda.

He further claimed that propaganda machinery, spiritual manipulation, ethnic pressure groups, and political loyalists would soon be mobilised to justify the move, warning that dissenters could be branded enemies of the state.

The bishop cautioned that any plan capable of destabilising or disintegrating the country should be immediately abandoned, stressing that nothing is hidden before God.

He urged President Tinubu to “bury such ambitions,” warning that pursuing a life presidency would pose a serious threat to Nigeria’s unity and continued existence.
