Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has shared a reflective conversation he once had with the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, highlighting Buhari’s views on the controversial removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of Buhari’s burial in Daura on Tuesday, Radda recounted the late leader’s words: “I pity Bola (President Tinubu) for what he is doing. He is a brave man for removing the fuel subsidy.”

According to Radda, Buhari admitted he faced intense resistance whenever he attempted to end the subsidy during his presidency. “Whenever I tried to remove the subsidy, many people would come up with numerous reasons why I shouldn’t. But Bola did it immediately. If he had consulted widely, he might not have gone through with it,” Buhari reportedly told him.

The governor also mourned Buhari’s passing, describing it as a significant national loss that has left behind a void difficult to fill.

Buhari died on Sunday at the age of 82 in a London clinic and was laid to rest in his hometown of Daura with full military honours.
