How Tinubu govt plan to rig 2027 election

Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has accused the Federal Government of plotting to rig the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Galadima vowed that his party would resist such plans and “teach the government a lesson” at the polls.

“What is going on is very easy. What this government is planning is to rig the 2027 election,” Galadima alleged.

Pressed on how he arrived at his conclusion, the NNPP leader said the government’s actions were revealing.

“From their antics, they say it. When they go to a governor and ask him to decamp, and if he refuses, they tell him, ‘We will take away power from you,’ not that they will allow voters to decide. That’s what they do, and they don’t understand,” he said.

Galadima further claimed that the Federal Government does not face enough criticism because, in his words, “there are no politicians in the country.”

He described the political class as opportunistic, lamenting that despite his decades of activism, he had never been elected into office because he was considered a “bad politician” under Nigeria’s system.

Turning to the by-elections conducted in 13 states over the weekend, Galadima faulted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alleging that the process was unconstitutional.

“I want to make a very important issue out of this by-election. All of them were conducted illegally by INEC,” he said. “When a vacancy occurs, INEC is under obligation to conduct by-elections within three months. Some of these elections were held nearly two years after.”

He insisted that if aggrieved candidates approach the courts, such elections could be nullified, arguing that “the constitution is clear on this matter.”
