How I survived s£x tape scandal

Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has revisited one of the most challenging periods of her life, recalling how she survived the release of her s3x tape in October 2021 — a period that coincided with the d3ath of her father.

In an interview with British media personality Zeze Mills, posted on YouTube, the award-winning singer described the incident as the darkest moment in her career.

Savage had earlier revealed she was being blackmailed over the footage, which eventually surfaced online.

“My dad died and my sex tape was released. The only way I could have survived was not to think about it,” she said.

Reflecting on her journey, the singer expressed gratitude for the opportunity to still share her story despite the setbacks.

“Being here on the couch with you is such a blessing. People still want to hear from me after so many years. I’ve gone through so much, but have I really enjoyed the moment?” she said.

Speaking on her personal life, Savage admitted she has never experienced true love, apart from the love she has for her son, Jamil. “Every time I look back at my relationships, I realise it wasn’t love — just infatuation. I don’t think I experienced true love, even when I was married,” she said.

Savage was married to her former manager, Tunji ‘Teebillz’ Balogun, from 2013 until their divorce in 2018. Their marriage produced one child.
