House of Representatives inaugurates Committees for Regional Development Commissions
The House of Representatives has officially inaugurated the Chairmen and members of its committees overseeing the newly established regional development commissions: the South West Development Commission (SWDC), South South Development Commission (SSDC), and North Central Development Commission (NCDC).
The committees were inaugurated on Wednesday in Abuja, marking a crucial step in the operationalization of the commissions, which were created to accelerate development and address socio-economic challenges peculiar to their respective regions.
Hon. Prince Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi, who was inaugurated as Chairman of the House Committee on the South West Development Commission, emphasized the importance of the commissions in bridging developmental gaps and promoting inclusive growth across Nigeria’s geo-political zones.
“We understand the huge tasks before us, and by God’s grace, we will deliver,” Adeyemi said in his remarks following the inauguration. “Once President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu swears in the Managing Directors and the respective Board Members, works will begin in earnest.”
The inauguration signifies a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s commitment to regional development and the devolution of strategic infrastructure and economic empowerment programs to underdeveloped and underrepresented areas.
Stakeholders across the regions have welcomed the move, expressing optimism that the commissions will play a transformative role in driving sustainable development, creating jobs, and improving the quality of life for millions of Nigerians.
The formal swearing-in of the Managing Directors and Board Members by President Tinubu is expected in the coming days.
