Killer Hippopotamus terrorising Adamawa communities
A hippopotamus that claimed the life of a young man in Banjiram village, Guyuk Local Government Area of Adamawa State, has been captured by residents in Shelleng Local Government Area.

The animal reportedly strayed from its natural habitat near the Kiri Dam after heavy flooding forced it out. The floods caused rivers to overflow, displacing both people and wildlife.
The deadly attack occurred on July 28, 2025, prompting widespread concern among locals. Community youths in Shelleng later succeeded in capturing the animal after it wandered into their area.
