Governor Sule approves recruitment of 4,700 teachers to boost Nasarawa’s education sector

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has approved the recruitment of 4,700 teachers to strengthen public primary education across the state. This development was announced by the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Mr. Peter Ahemba, during his monthly press briefing at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Lafia on Tuesday.
Ahemba explained that the mass recruitment is a critical part of Governor Sule’s broader agenda to reform the education sector in the state. He emphasized the administration’s resolve to enforce compulsory basic education, making it mandatory for all parents to enroll their school-age children in primary schools.
He urged teachers to remain professional and committed to their duties, noting that the government is dedicated to improving standards in both primary and secondary schools.
Addressing recent issues within the civil service, Ahemba disclosed that the chairman, secretary, and members of the Teachers Service Commission have been dismissed over allegations of corruption during a previous recruitment exercise. He stated that the dismissals were a result of findings linking the officials to employment racketeering.
Ahemba added that the Nasarawa State House of Assembly has commenced an investigation into the matter to determine the extent of each official’s involvement in the scandal.
On national affairs, Ahemba expressed gratitude to the people of Nasarawa for their warm reception of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his recent visit to the state. According to him, the president commended Governor Sule’s leadership and acknowledged key infrastructural projects including the multi-billion naira flyover and underpass, the dualised Lafia–Shendam road, and the newly completed state secretariat complex.
Ahemba also announced plans by the state government to construct a multimillion-naira five-star hotel in Lafia. The hotel project is aimed at providing quality hospitality infrastructure to cater to the increasing number of tourists and investors coming into the state.
He concluded by calling on citizens to continue supporting Governor Sule’s administration as it works to deliver more developmental projects and democratic dividends.
