Governor Okpebholo hails Supreme Court ruling, calls for unity

Governor Monday Okpebholo has expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court following its verdict affirming him as the duly elected Governor of Edo State. The ruling brings an end to all legal disputes surrounding the September 2024 governorship election.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, on Thursday, Governor Okpebholo described the judgment as not a personal victory, but a collective triumph for all citizens of Edo State, regardless of political, ethnic, or religious affiliations.
“I extend profound gratitude to the judiciary for its courage and fidelity to justice, and to the great people of Edo State for their unflinching support, patience, and faith in democracy,” he said.
Reaffirming his commitment to governance, Governor Okpebholo vowed to lead with humility, compassion, and accountability. He reiterated that his administration remains focused on implementing its developmental agenda, which prioritizes security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment, and job creation.
In a gesture of reconciliation, the governor extended an olive branch to his political opponents and members of the opposition, urging all stakeholders to put the elections behind them and focus on the collective task of building a better Edo State.
“The elections are over; the real work of governance and healing must begin,” he stated, calling on political leaders across party lines to rise above division and contribute constructively.
He also emphasized the importance of inclusive dialogue, encouraging constructive criticism rooted in a genuine desire to see the state prosper.
“Edo belongs to all of us. The time has come to set aside our differences, close ranks, and march forward—united in purpose, anchored in peace, and driven by a shared vision of progress,” he said.
Governor Okpebholo concluded by calling on all Edo people to embrace a new era of unity and collaboration, saying the judgment should mark a turning point in the state’s democratic and developmental journey.
