Turkish Super Lig champions, Galatasaray, have confirmed that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has suffered an ankle injury while on international duty.

The 26-year-old was substituted in the 35th minute of Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Rwanda last weekend, with Cyriel Dessers taking his place.

The injury also kept him out of the Super Eagles’ crucial World Cup qualifier against South Africa in Bloemfontein on Tuesday night.

In a statement on the club’s official website, Galatasaray revealed that medical tests showed a “moderate sprain” in the forward’s ankle ligaments.

“In the examinations performed today at our sponsor hospital for our Football A Team player Victor Osimhen, a moderate sprain (stretching and bleeding) was detected in his ankle ligaments, and the necessary treatment has been initiated in order for our football player to return to the field as soon as possible,” the statement read.

Osimhen has since begun treatment, though the club has not given a definite timeline for his return.

Galatasaray will host Eyupspor in the league this weekend before opening their UEFA Champions League campaign away to Eintracht Frankfurt next week.
