Fuji legend Kwam 1 breaks silence on Abuja airport drama

Legendary Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has refuted claims of unruly behavior at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, describing the allegations as exaggerated and misleading.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is currently investigating the incident, which reportedly occurred on August 5, 2025, during the boarding of a ValueJet flight.

FAAN had earlier accused the artiste of breaching aviation protocol and causing a scene, including allegedly spilling alcohol on aviation staff.

In a statement released by his media aide, Kunle Rasheed, Kwam 1 insisted he was the victim in the situation, not the aggressor.

“Our attention has been drawn to reports alleging that King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal displayed unruly conduct while attempting to board a ValueJet flight… We wish to categorically state that this narrative is not only exaggerated but also misleading,” the statement read.

According to the veteran artiste, the substance that drew attention from airport security was “plain drinking water” served to him in the VIP lounge, not alcohol or any prohibited item.

“Despite his respectful effort to clarify this, the situation was unnecessarily escalated,” he added.

Rejecting claims that he disrupted flight operations, Kwam 1 emphasized his experience with both domestic and international travel, saying he has always adhered strictly to aviation rules and procedures.

He also revealed that ValueJet’s management, including the Chairman and Managing Director, apologized for the incident and offered to transport him to Lagos via a private jet — an offer he ultimately declined.

“If indeed there had been anything inappropriate in his conduct, officials from FAAN, the NCAA, and the airline’s top executives would not have reached out personally to apologize and offer alternative transportation,” the statement noted.

Kwam 1 further clarified that only he and his personal assistant were involved in the incident, while some fellow passengers urged him to remain calm after witnessing the episode.

In response to reports suggesting tension with the pilot, the statement noted that the pilot in question has now had her license suspended.

“Given the circumstances, it is no surprise if she attempts to deflect blame — surely, she must lie to cover herself up,” the statement said.

The Fuji icon urged the media and public to report responsibly and avoid sensationalizing the matter.

“Let the truth — not assumptions — guide public judgment,” he appealed.

The incident has sparked public debate on issues surrounding celebrity behavior, airport security, and airline accountability in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
