Francisca ordega brings hope to Yelewata IDP Camp, donates relief items

Super Falcons forward and five-time WAFCON champion, Francisca Mlumun Ordega, brought smiles and renewed hope to the Yelewata Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Makurdi on Tuesday, as she paid a humanitarian visit and donated relief materials to victims of recent violent attacks.

The visit comes in the aftermath of a deadly assault on Yelewata community, which left several people dead and forced many others to flee their homes.

Ordega, visibly emotional during the visit, expressed her sympathy for the affected families and called for sustained support for communities displaced by insecurity.

“I am here to stand with my people — to let them know they are not forgotten. This is just a token of my love and concern, and I hope others will also be inspired to help,” she said.

Her arrival at the camp was met with cheers and warm applause from residents, many of whom described her gesture as a powerful symbol of solidarity.

The donated items included foodstuffs, clothing, and other essentials aimed at easing the burden on families still struggling to rebuild their lives.

Residents praised the football star not just for her generosity but for choosing to remember and act when many had moved on.

“Her visit reminds us that we still matter — that someone still cares,” one camp resident said.

They also appealed to other public figures, community leaders, and government agencies to emulate Ordega’s humanitarian spirit and increase their support for internally displaced persons across the state.

Ordega’s act adds to a growing number of Nigerian athletes stepping beyond the pitch to make tangible contributions in the fight against poverty and displacement.
