FG raises alarm over circulation of fake N1,000 notes in Kwara

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Kwara State has issued a warning to the public over the circulation of fake N1000 notes in the state.
State Director of the agency, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Dare, made this known in a statement released in Ilorin, urging residents, traders, and business operators to be vigilant.
He revealed that intelligence reports had confirmed the presence of syndicates distributing counterfeit banknotes bearing batch numbers 364232 and 898248 across markets and commercial centres.
“These fake notes are usually identified by their blurred portraits, distorted watermarks, and inconsistent security features,” Dare explained.
He said the criminals often operate during peak business hours, specifically targeting POS operators and traders, thereby defrauding them of their money.
Dare assured the public that the NOA is actively sensitising residents about the dangers of counterfeit currency and how to identify fake notes. He also noted that the agency is working closely with security agencies to track and apprehend the culprits.
Describing the act as a threat to Nigeria’s economy, he called on the public to immediately report any suspicious transactions or individuals to the relevant authorities.
“Together, we can stop the spread of fake currency and ensure a safer financial system for everyone in Kwara State,” he added.
