The immediate past Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ude Chukwu, on Saturday formally defected to the Labour Party (LP) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Chukwu, who served under former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, announced his move at his country home in Nkporo, Ohafia Local Government Area, declaring that his community had fully embraced the LP.

“All Nkporo people are here today. The implication is that Nkporo is now in the Labour Party,” he said, while praising Governor Alex Otti’s leadership style. According to him, Otti has redefined governance in Abia and restored pride to the state.

Receiving him, Governor Otti described Chukwu as a principled leader and assured that infrastructure projects in Nkporo would match the standard of those in Aba and Umuahia.

Abia LP Chairman, Sir Emmanuel Otti, and Ohafia LGA Chairman, Godwin Kalu, hailed Chukwu’s defection as a boost to the party, while PDP’s Ohafia LGA chairman, Egesi Eze Azu, also announced his switch to the LP alongside the former deputy governor.
