El-rufai reacts to police’s summon over ADC meeting

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused the state Commissioner of Police of acting outside the law following a summons issued to him by the command.

El-Rufai, who spoke at a press conference in his Kaduna residence on Thursday, described the police action as a “dangerous descent into lawlessness.”

The Kaduna State Police Command had earlier halted a scheduled meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state before summoning El-Rufai alongside seven members of the party.

They were invited for questioning over alleged criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous hurt.

According to the police, the ADC chairman in the state was directed to produce El-Rufai and the other invitees at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 8.

Reacting, El-Rufai said the police commissioner presented a document he claimed was a court order but failed to properly serve it as required by law. “The commissioner knows what he is doing violates the Constitution,” he said.

“He waved a piece of paper claiming it was a court order, but it was never served. Even if such an order exists, it must be legally delivered before it can take effect. That has not happened. This is a dangerous descent into lawlessness. We want to see that injunction, we want to know the grounds, and we will contest them in court. This is not the end—further steps will follow.”
