Africa’s richest man and President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary role in transforming Nigeria’s infrastructure, particularly through the Bar Beach Land Reclamation and Eko Atlantic City projects in Lagos.

In a letter addressed to the president, Dangote commended Tinubu for initiating the land reclamation effort in 2008, which has since evolved into Eko Atlantic City—a 1,000-hectare modern city protected by an 8.5-kilometre sea wall. According to Dangote, the development has shielded Victoria Island from ocean surges while creating new economic, residential, and recreational spaces.

Highlighting the significance of Tinubu’s foresight, Dangote drew comparisons to the recent tragic flash flooding in Kerr County, Texas, where over 100 lives were lost, underscoring the importance of proactive urban planning in Nigeria’s coastal zones.

He further lauded Tinubu’s efforts in initiating other key infrastructure projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the long-awaited Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, describing them as major milestones for national connectivity and economic growth.

“Your inspired leadership reminds one of the successful land reclamation efforts in the Netherlands,” Dangote stated, noting the similarity in strategic vision between the Dutch model and the Bar Beach transformation.
