COAS announces major Army shake-up, names new commanders

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has approved the posting and appointment of senior officers to key command, instructional, and staff positions across formations and units of the Nigerian Army.

According to a statement by Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the redeployment is part of efforts to strengthen leadership and reposition the Army for greater operational effectiveness.

The exercise affects principal staff officers at the Army Headquarters, two General Officers Commanding (GOCs), corps commanders, commandants of training institutions, and brigade commanders, among others.

At the Army Headquarters, Major General A.A. Adeyinka was moved from the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport (NACST) to the Department of Army Logistics as Chief of Logistics. Major General A.A. Adekeye was redeployed from the Department of Standard and Evaluation to Personnel Management as Chief of Personnel Management, while Major General T.B. Ugiagbe was posted from Army Intelligence Corps to Standard and Evaluation as Chief of Standard and Evaluation.

Also, Major General A.A. Idris moved from Defence Headquarters to the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps as Chief of Military Intelligence, and Major General M.O. Erebulu was appointed Provost Marshal after his redeployment from Special Services and Programmes to the Military Police.

In the corps and specialist postings, Major General E.A. Anaryu was appointed Corps Commander, Supply and Transport, while Major General S.A. Akesode was posted to Ethiopia as Head of the African Union Verification Mission in the Tigray Region. Similarly, Major General J.E. Osifo was named Director General of the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation.

New General Officers Commanding include Major General A.S.M. Wase, who now heads 1 Division/Sector 1 Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, and Major General C.R. Nnebeife, who takes over 2 Division/Sector 3 Joint Task Force.

For training institutions, Major General M.O. Ihanuwaze was appointed Commandant, Nigerian Army Finance School; Major General K.O. Osemwegie, Commandant, Army Signal School; Major General A.J. Aliyu, Commandant, Ordnance School; and Major General A.C. Adetoba, Commandant, Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management.

At the brigade level, Brigadier General M. Jimoh was posted to 1 Brigade as Commander, Brigadier General N.E. Okoloagu to 2 Brigade, and Brigadier General A.A. Bello to 6 Division Garrison/Sector 3 JTF South South, Operation DELTA SAFE.

Lieutenant General Oluyede charged the newly appointed officers to redouble their efforts in sustaining the Army’s ongoing operations against terrorism, insurgency, and other security challenges. He also restated his commitment to prioritizing troop welfare as a cornerstone of operational success.
